Menopause Definition

Menopause Définition : Menopause is defined as the permanent cessation of menstruation resulting from
loss of ovarian follicular activity. This definition is primarily a retrospective definition, since it is based on
a consecutive period of 12 months of amenorrhea without physiological or pathological cause obvious.

We can help with progesterone test knowing that the diagnosis will likely when the test is negative for at least 2 consecutive months (see below). Bioassays have no interest for the diagnosis of menopause apart from special cases (dosage FSH and oestradiol levels).



The median age of natural menopause in the European population is between 50
years and 51 years and a half. Approximately 10-15% of women will menopause before age 45
years, half of them will be before 50 years and overall, 90-95% of women will
menopause at the age of 55.
